Procedures · A potato case study

One real potato crop. Four DRIS stages.

Follow a potato crop from preplanting soil correction to a marketable harvest, every stage guided by DRIS.

The process

Four stages, one balanced season.

01

Preplanting

Soil analysis and custom soil correction: calcium and phosphate blends to fix deficiencies before planting.

02

Root development

Enhanced root development and soil aeration. Controlled early growth builds deep, healthy roots.

03

Tuber initiation

Early tuber initiation and uniform set: short, strong stolons with no weaning and consistent sizing.

04

Bulking & resilience

Nano-calcium reduces soil compaction and improves ridge aeration for uniform bulking and fast stress recovery.

Stage 01–02 · Foundation

A strong start under the surface.

We used DRIS to identify nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in the soil, then applied custom rectification blends, including available calcium and phosphate, to correct them. The planting fertiliser mix was tailored to the corrected balance and the crop's early needs.

Early vegetative growth stayed controlled, letting the crop focus on building deep, penetrating roots that improve nutrient uptake and aeration, and prepare the plant to withstand stress.

Stage 03–04 · Yield

Uniform tubers, consistent quality.

With the DRIS nutrient program, including precise foliar applications, tuber initiation began early, with short strong stolons and no weaning. That led to uniform tuber development: potatoes of consistent size and quality, significantly improving marketability and pack-out.

Custom soil blends improved structure throughout the season: better flocculation, aeration and water penetration, sustained right through bulking.

The DRIS method

How It Works

01
N P K Ca Mg S Zn Fe B Mn

Measure

DRIS uses the Mulder's Chart to evaluate nutrient interactions against each other, not just levels or norms.

02
Liebig's barrel showing nutrient staves

Interpret

DRIS brings Liebig's Law of the Minimum into practice by identifying limiting and suppressing factors that restrict growth.

03
kg/ha

Recommend

DRIS can calculate per kg per ha what recommendation is required to restore balance and production.

04

Monitor

Nutrient plans are adjusted in real time using the DRIS Crop Monitoring Protocol. No more guesswork.

By providing precise recommendations, DRIS helps farmers apply nutrients only when needed, avoiding over-fertilisation and minimising environmental impact, while maximising marketable yield.
The findings

Stronger starts. Healthier crops.

One of the first signs of success was uniform germination and emergence across the entire field. Even establishment led to consistent growth, reduced variability, and a crop that developed evenly: a strong foundation for the season.

The results

Higher quality. Higher returns.

These improvements translated into a higher marketable yield, a key success factor for farmers focused on profit and pack-out.

+1,000

extra 10 kg bags/ha in marketable yield

−50%

post-harvest waste, cut by over half

Skin set

improved: better shelf life

Uniform

greater tuber uniformity & nutrient density

Grade

better specific gravity: more meet market grade

Calcium + phosphate blends

corrected soil deficiencies

Nano-calcium

improved aeration, reduced compaction, boosted root and tuber growth

Real-time foliar adjustments

helped plants thrive throughout the season

Nitrogen → calcium strategy

reduced pest pressure and built crop resilience

"With DRIS, our nutrient strategy wasn't just correct: it was timed right, field-specific, and proven."

Together these solutions delivered a healthier crop, stronger roots and more uniform yield, proof that precision nutrition pays off.
